Marketing and Distribution, an entity within the Neal and Massy Group of Companies, yesterday donated a $40,000 cheque to the Ruimveldt Children’s Aid Centre.
Ms Shalini Thakur, on behalf of Marketing and Distribution, handed over the cheque to the project coordinator of the Aid Centre, Ms Ismay Murray.
The donation, according to Ms Shivaughn Wilson, representative of the Group of Companies, came as part of efforts to restore the water system at the centre.
Wilson explained that it was through a correspondent that officials of the entity made the request to Marketing and Distribution, outlining that the plumbing system was in a deplorable state.
The Aid Centre has, over the years, been providing services such as meals, counselling, literacy and moral skills programmes to children of the Ruimveldt community free of cost. Currently, in excess of 50 children access the service of the entity on a daily basis.
Recognising the instrumental role the entity plays, Wilson said that there was no hesitation on the part of Marketing and Distribution to render the much needed assistance.
But this has not been the first instance of assistance, since, in addition to a monthly provision of milk to the entity, other supporting measures are being offered, Wilson disclosed.
