Magistrate Priya Beharry yesterday jailed the man whom the police caught in the ceiling of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs early on the morning of August 12.
The man, Trevor Headley, 40, admitted to breaking into the ministry with others, but said that he was the only one to be caught.
Headley also admitted to breaking into the National Insurance Scheme and stealing four computer monitors, valued at $180,000. He pleaded guilty to that charge.
He broke and entered the Ministry of Agriculture, between May 30 and May 31, and stole two computer monitors valued at $90,000 and a keyboard valued at $30,000. Headley also pleaded guilty to that charge.
The security cameras had caught him in the act, and he did not worry too much, except to cover his head, then continue to break into the building.
It was after the police were building there case against the man by analyzing the fingerprints that were retrieved from various ministries and other Government agencies that he had been broken into that they positively ‘linked Headley to these crimes.
Before Magistrate Beharry gave her sentence, she asked the man if he had anything to say. He told the court that he committed the crime and must face the time. He was jailed for three years on each charge. However, the sentences will run concurrently.
And popular local artist Sonia Yarde was yesterday placed on $100,000 bail for allegedly uttering a forged document with the intent to defraud Travis Smyth.
Sonia Yarde, who is a volunteer for CARIFSTA and resides at 4 Norton Street and works at the Ministry of Health, allegedly uttered a Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) grade slip purporting to show that she had gained exceedingly good grades at the said examinations.
The document shows that she wrote the exam in 1996 and she gained Grade Two passes in Biology, English and Principles of Business. The accused is to return to court on September 25, 2008.
