A woman was reportedly injured by pellets when authorities of the Georgetown Prisons opened fire on a man whom they suspected had thrown a prohibited substance over the walls of the facility.
Kaieteur News understands that yesterday, prison officials saw the man throwing something over the fence. They suspected the ‘something’ to be marijuana.
They challenged the man who attempted to run away, forcing a prison official to discharge a round from the shotgun. A senior police source confirmed that the man was subsequently arrested.
However, a search of the area outside and within the prison where the man was spotted did not reveal any illegal substance.
