A teen couple was robbed outside the First Baptist Church on Creen Street on the evening of Friday last.
They were returning from an outing in the Botanical Gardens when they were attacked and stripped of their valuables.
The 18-year-old and the 16-year-old, who wished not to be identified, said that the robbers were two teens on bicycles and one of them was armed with a hand gun.
The attackers relieved them of two cellular phones and their jewelry valued at over $40,000.
After the incident the couple ran towards the girl’s home in St Stephen’s Street and related the incident to an aunt who took them to the Brickdam Police Station.
After reporting the incident to the police, the young man was taken around the city with the hope that he would have seen his attackers. The efforts were futile.
Some time later, the young couple conducted their own investigation and found out that their phones were seen in the hands of a man who resides in Albouystown.
The man, they said, was showing off the phones to someone who knew the robbery victims. The identification was made possible by virtue of their pictures inside the multimedia feature on both phones.
When questioned by the individual about the phones, the man ran away. They said that they have accepted the fact that they have lost their phones since they have declined to make a further report to the police.
