SPRINGLANDS, CORENTYNE – A gun-toting robber was last week placed before the Springlands Magistrate’s Court to face several charges of robbery under arms.
Michael Simon, a 21-year-old unemployed man of Kildonan Village on the Corentyne appeared before Magistrate Chandra Sohan and was refused bail.
The alleged robbery took place at about 13:00 hours on Saturday, July 26 at the Adventure Access Road on the Corentyne.
Minibus driver, 49-year-old Jainarine Seecharran, of Mibicuri North, Black Bush Polder, was reportedly robbed of a gold ring valued at $12,000 and $6,000 in cash.
Passenger Aneshia Munroe was allegedly relieved of articles valued at $30,000; Albert Wilson – $25,000; Narine Sammy – $20,000; Indira Budhu — $168,000 in cash and jewellery; Lilawattie Ruby— $4,000; Kalamadai Mohabir— $132,000 in cash and jewellery; Chandrawattie Singh — $50,000 in items and cash; Gangadai – $4,000; Danwattie Roopnarine – $3,000; and Arjune Tilackran – $3,000.
The gunman and an accomplice had boarded the bus at Port Mourant; the bus was bound for Black Bush Polder.
The matter was transferred to the Whim Magistrate’s Court, where it comes up for hearing today.
