The Guyana Consumers Association has acknowledged the works of Health Minister Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, indicating that he has contributed an outstanding academic and professional profile with great energy and revolutionary creativity.
In a press release, the organisation noted that it was fitting to acknowledge the minister’s remarkable works to prove that a prophet does not always go unrecognised in his own country, to give recognition to a world-class Guyanese, and, most importantly, as an encouragement and inspiration to the political and official establishment to serve the public with greater commitment.
The release further stated that Dr. Ramsammy’s works and innovations are too many to recount, paying emphasis to his intense involvement in the HIV/AIDS fight and many immunization programmes.
According to the GCA, the minister has quietly built hospitals all over Guyana, and has introduced open heart surgery, kidney transplants and dialyses, even as he has made possible modern equipment, such as the 3DMP to diagnose heart problems.
Through the efforts of the minister there is now a Cancer Clinic, while the establishment of a comprehensive medical laboratory is the materialisation of a long-felt dream.
The minister has done much to maintain and expand medical training, and has established the beginnings of a Dental School, the consumer body noted.
The GCA noted that Dr. Ramsammy’s election to the Presidency of the World Health Assembly last May has not only brought honour and prestige to Guyana and the Caribbean, but has also given recognition to him as a truly outstanding individual.
The Guyana Consumers Association congratulates the minister on his elevation, the release added.
