Twenty-one-year-old Andrea Roach, the dancer who suffered spinal injuries during Emancipation Day celebrations, has taken a turn for the worse.
Roach was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital on Friday evening after attempting a dangerous dance routine.
But, at around 15:00hrs yesterday, she had to be transferred from Ward “C” to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after she stopped breathing.
“She was breathing through she mouth, then suddenly she start rolling up her eyes, and suddenly she stop breathing,” said Karen Jennings, the mother of the patient.
Jennings added that she alerted the nurses, and Stacy was immediately given oxygen before her relocation to the ICU.
She is presently hooked up to life-saving machines.
Stacy attended Emancipation Day celebrations in the National Park, and upon the conclusion of the day’s activities, decided, along with another dance colleague from the X-Factor Dance Group, to practice a few routines on stage. As part of the exercise, she was thrown into the air, but, unfortunately, was not caught by the male dancer.
Roach fell head-first into the wooden stage, sustaining severe injuries to her neck and spine.
She was rushed to the GPHC by her friends and ranks of the GDF who were nearby.
At the hospital, she was told by medical professionals that she might become paralyzed due to the impact of the fall.
However, the young woman’s relatives are optimistic that she will be well enough to be able to access the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan, which was scheduled for today, to ascertain the extent of her injuries.
