Decked out in their colourful African prints, Guyanese — primarily those of African ancestry — converged at the National Park in order to observe the annual ACDA-hosted Emancipation festivity.
With brilliant sunshine, the day was regarded as just perfect to flaunt the eye-catching and fashionable pieces, much to the admiration of those who came mainly to view.
And, from all indications, the intriguing dress code had no limit to age groups, since the numerous fashions could have been seen on all, from the very young child to the older folks, bringing a sense of nostalgia, of how it use to be a very long time ago.
But though fashion was the hit of the day, food was undoubtedly one of the interesting factors that consumed many. And there was a variety of African foods.
Of interest, though, was the fact that the very common dish of Bar-b-cue chicken was very much a part of the menu…with many a grill hot with the mouth-watering pieces of meat.
The celebration also entailed an exhibition segment, with several display booths that attempted to recapture the long journey of Africans to their acclamation of freedom.
