DEAR EDITOR,
It is rather appalling to listen and read reports on various topical issues and matters of interest to this nation by various persons in high authority.
Sometimes it leaves me to wonder whether these persons see themselves as intelligent and the remaining of the populace illiterate, and cannot comprehend the difference between a donkey and a horse.
After one month or so the police are now saying to the Guyanese nation that it was not their intelligence network that has come up with the theory of ‘Fineman’ gang being involved in the Lindo Creek killings.
Rather, this whole story came from two women who were part of the bus that was hijacked on the Arorima trail last June (SN July 24, 2008 p.13).
This is rather strange and disturbing and it questions whether the police force and our security sector are actually telling the Guyanese populace the truth.
What is contradicting is the fact that in previous reports the Commissioner of Police Mr. Henry Greene mentioned that from all information and evidence gathered from Lindo Creek the police is justified that the ‘Fineman’ gang was involved in those killings.
Now the story has twisted to two women expressing these sentiments. I say we are living in Guyana and anything is possible.
It is no wonder that the owner of the mining camp along with some relatives of the deceased are saying otherwise in relation to the killings.
Imagine our purportedly trained security forces cannot find and capture this ‘Fineman gang’ although reports had suggested that this gang was being cornered and has no way to go. What a shame.
One can draw many conclusions from this inability of our forces to capture this gang.
Firstly, the gang of men is well trained and is familiar with the jungle, hence it is likely that some of the persons in the gang might be ex-military personnel and the situation might be larger than we think it is.
Secondly, those in high authorities may be withholding information from the populace because they are aware of what actually took place and bringing the truth out might cause plenty of heads to roll and some could be charged for murder.
Thirdly, it shows us clearly that the criminal enterprise as touted by those in authority has more sophisticated equipment and machinery than the security forces.
The other aspect I wish to stress on is the DNA and other tests conducted by the Trinidadian and Jamaican personnel, on the remains of the deceased.
As for me I am convinced that these tests are only to assist in determining who is who so the relatives could have some parts of their family for a burial.
The question one should ask is why have the Americans refused to assist in this investigation and why the British were not allowed to be part of this exercise. Is there fear of the truth being revealed?
I am hoping that this case would not be another Monica Reece or other cases that are still to be solved. After all we are living in a technological age and when one looks at the Forensic capabilities of the Americans, I ponder as to whether those in authority are serious in having those responsible for these murders being brought to justice.
If those who would have committed this heinous crime believe that they will get off, I wish to let them know that God is watching them and he knows and sees everything, and while they can hide from man they cannot hide from God.
It reminds me of the saying “the evil that men do lives after them”. However, I say the evil lives with them.
I always remember the story of the man who poisoned my Grandfather; that man before he died ended up living on the streets crawling on his knees and begging.
I urge those who have ears to hear and those who have eyes to see, see. Mr. Commissioner, don’t be a puppet on a string; be a professional. Remember God is watching you.
