Rosignol United posted their first win and points of the 2008 Coca Cola / Berbice Football Association (BFA) 2008 League with a 2-1 win over Rainbow Generation (RG) in the first game of a double header at the Rosignol CDC Ground on Sunday last.
Kwame Goodluck from the spot and Shawn Brutus scored for Rosignol with RG’s consolation coming off the boot of Christopher Clarkson.
Defending champions, West Berbice’ Monedderlust continued their poor form this season when they fell to Real Union 4-2 in the main game.
Delwin Fraser hammered a hat trick for Real Union who now joins Mahaicony in the 2nd spot on the table with 9 points each. Hitting the other goal was Hubert Castilla. Monedderlust got both their goals from Dwayne Gilford.
Elsewhere, Mahaicony came from behind to defeat edge out Brazilla by the odd goal in 3. Brazilla had taken the lead through a H. Karamchand 20th minute strike and held the advantage until the 67th minute when Sherwyn Ceasar netted the first of his double. He touched in the winner 8 minutes later.
Brazilla were reduced to 10 men in the 80th minute when Mark Amsterdam was sent off for using indecent language.
What should have been the main game at the Blairmont Settlement ground between Paradise Invaders and Corentyne never materliased due to the non appearance of the Paradise team, their 2nd no show in as many weeks.
Cougars still hold a slim 1 point lead at the top of the table with 10 points followed by Real Union and Mahaicony on 9 each.
New Amsterdam United 7, Monedderlust and Brazilla 6 each, Rainbow Generation, Corentyne and Rosignol 3 apiece and Paradise Invaders 0.
Meanwhile, the BFA Executive will be meeting this afternoon from 17:00hrs at their office, Main & Wapping Lane New Amsterdam.
An update on the Coca Cola League, clubs and players fines, players’ transfers and cost to prepare grounds will be discussed.
