There were no surprises on the 2nd night of action in the Cellink Plus Premier league which continued on Sunday at the Tucville Ground.
The Guyana Defence Force was in menacing form with the unfortunate side being bottom of the table Uprising who were annihilated 10-1 in the evening’s first encounter, while the main clash ended in a comfortable 3-1 win for defending champions Alpha United over Pele, whose woeful run has continued.
Stellon David marked his recall to the national team with a rampaging performance which was ably backed up by fellow ‘Golden Jaguar’ Dwight Peters.
David fired in a helmet-trick with goals in the 41st, 48th, 55th and 81st minutes, while Peters was on target in the 27th, 40th and 76th minute. Also adding their names to the score sheet were Warren Gilkes (35), Desford Williams (58) and Royan Morrison, 3 minutes before full time.
But during all the barrage of goals, Uprising’s Freeman Fordyce was able to stick in one of his own in the 60th minute.
GDF have maintained their close marking of front runners Sunburst Camptown moving to 17 points with the leader’s just one point ahead. Uprising, who finished as the division one champions last year, remain at the bottom on a single point and still without a win.
The defending champions Alpha, who started out the league poorly, has continued to improve with the return of a number of key players. Pele on the other hand continue to struggle and must devise a way of rebounding urgently.
Elton Browne in the 10th, midfield stalwart Shawn Bishop in the 29th and Anthony Abrams in the 82nd were the players that hit the network for Alpha. Another midfield maestro, Travis ‘Zorro’ Grant was the lone man on target for Pele, in the 30th minute.
With the win, Alpha maintain their 3rd position on 15 points while Pele remain at number 6 on 8 points.
Fans are in for a big Emancipation double header on Friday night at the same venue.
Alpha will again be in action against Santos from 18:00hrs, the night capper bringing together old rivals Sunburst Camptown and Pele.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
