Locally based players selected to represent Guyana at this year’s 17th Caribbean Cup and 4th WDF Americas Cup Darts Tournament scheduled to be staged from July 25- August 3 in Trinidad and Tobago is expected to depart this morning for the twin tournaments.
The six players who form part of a ten-member squad which includes six men and four women will be led by national champion Norman Madhoo, while Sudesh Fitzgerald, Lalchand Rambharose, Mark Semple, Jean Singh and Jean De Souza will join overseas-based Lorna Walters, Jackie Clarke, Andy Muir and Floyd Jaundoo in the Twin Island Republic.
According to defending Caribbean Men’s champion Norman Madhoo, speaking after the team’s final practice session said that even though the team lacked competition by way of tournaments, the sessions had gone well and he expects Guyana to do even better than they did the last time when the competition was played in Barbados in 2006.
The team is a relatively experienced one and most of the players named have played in the regional competition before.
Apart from host Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana some of the other teams slated to participate are: (Caribbean Cup)- Turks and Caicos, Florida, Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica, Belize, Brazil, Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, St. Lucia, while the United States of America and Canada are the teams added to the list to compete in the Americas Cup.
The reigning team champion in the Americas Cup is the USA, while the hosts are the current titlist in the Caribbean Cup.
The main sponsors are: Dyna’s Embroidery, F&H printing, Essential Services and the Water Store.
