With consecutive victories in his last 76th local competitions, local Race-Walker Rudolph Mitchell has never lost since the mid 1980’s when Guyana Defence Force officer Murtland Wilson beat him in Georgetown.
The very fit Lindener is arguably one of the best in the business in the Caribbean Region.
In the 1970’s he entered and won his first Race-Walk in the Guymine Games and has dominated the sport countrywide hoping that his dreams to represent his country Guyana at the international level becomes a reality before he retires from the sport.
The 47 year-old only became a Race-Walker because he did not qualify as a sprinter for the Guymine Games but still wanted to be involved in the games. “I love race-walking and I participate for the fun and to keep fit and healthy,” Mitchell opined.
The veteran Race-Walker praised the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club, the main promoters of the Sport in Guyana and the efforts of David Kirton for keeping the sport alive in Guyana.
The Race-walk champion revealed that his most memorable race was in the late 1990’s from Soesdyke to the Wismar Housing Scheme in Linden. “The race began at seven in the morning and lasted for eight hours.
It was over 40 miles and I remember walking bare¬footed and bleeding badly at the finish. I will continue to be involved in the sport until I die,” he added.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
