A City Council worker, who is accused of disarming a licensed firearm holder of his weapon, has been remanded.
The accused, Rudolph Mattis, called Rudolph London, made his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle, who read the simple larceny charge to him.
It is alleged that, on Friday last, he stole one .32 pistol, valued $130,000, and one magazine with 11 matching rounds, valued at $10,000, from David Nelson. Mattis pleaded not guilty to the charge.
It is also alleged that, on the same day, he stole one CD music system worth $45,000 from Adrian Chapman. He also pleaded not guilty to that charge.
In his own defence, Mattis told the court that on the day in question he was merely passing by a location on North Road when he was attacked by both Chapman and David, who accused him of stealing the items stated in the court.
David Nelson, one of the virtual complainants, who was present in court, said that the story told by the accused was untrue.
He said that, on the day in question, he and Chapman caught Mattis in Chapman’s minibus stealing the CD music system.
David said that, while attempting to subdue Mattis, the accused bit him on his arm and disarmed him of his weapon. He added that Mattis then gun butted him to his head with the weapon.
According to Nelson, it was then that Chapman intervened, and they managed to subdue Mattis and take the weapon away.
At that point Mattis interjected, noting that the two men gave him a sound thrashing before handing him over to the police.
Police prosecutor Sherwin Matthews objected to bail.
Mattis is expected to return to court for his trial on July 31.
