Canadian-based Guyanese student George Bulkan won last Saturday’s Demerara Mutual sponsored Medal Play Golf tournament played at Lusignan Golf course.
Bulkan playing off a 15 handicap had a gross 84 to finish with a net 69 beating 19 golfers including his father Ronald on his way to victory under tough conditions at the LGC.
Veteran golfer Maurice Solomon continued his impressive form this season taking the second position with a net 70. He recorded a gross 94 playing off a 24 handicap.
Alfred Mentore (7 handicap) recorded a gross 79 to finish with a net 72. Another consistent player, Imran Khan won the prize for being Nearest to the Pin.
Demerara Mutual Public Relations Manager Marjorie Chester who presented the prizes to the top performers offered her company’s continued support to golf.
Chester disclosed that Demerara Mutual has had a long standing relationship with the LGC and the relationship will continue in the future.
According to Chester, Demerara Mutual with other branches in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago supports the development of the region’s athletes through sponsorship.
Vice president of the LGC, Brian Hackett thanked Demerara Mutual for continuing its support to golf in Guyana and said the LGC look forward to working with the company in the future. Caps were presented to all the participants at Saturday’s tournament.
