Learie Webster played unbeaten to top the first round of the Oasis Café Open Chess Tournament held last Saturday at the Oasis Too on South Road.
Webster finished with six points from six rounds. Sixteen players have qualified for the quarter-final, which start this Friday at the Oasis Café on Carmichael Street from 16:30hrs.
Other players who have qualified are Errol Tiwari with 5 points, Shiv Nandalall 4 ½ , Roy Sharma 4, Everton London and Taffin Khan 3 ½ , Andre Griffith, Neil Khan, Robert Arjoon, Michael Perreira and Khalid Gajraj all on 3 points, Ivan Duncan, Sean Richmond and Ronald Roberts on 2 ½ , Keelun Booker and Ryan Singh on 2 points.
The tournament will continue this Friday with the sixteen players divided into four groups. Group A will have Webster, N. Khan, Arjoon, and Singh; Group B, Tiwari, Griffith, Perreira and Booker; Group C, Nandalall, T. Khan, Gajraj and Roberts and Group D, Sharma, London, Duncan and Richmond.
The players who have qualified are asked to assemble at the Oasis Café on Carmichael Street at 16:30hrs for a 17:00hrs sharp start.
