Training to continue twice daily
Under the guidance of Coach Wayne Dover, 30 local players commenced training for the 2008 Digicel Caribbean Championship (DCC) with Endurance Fitness Test also known as the Beep Test yesterday.
The 20 meters Shuttle Run test was held at the Guyana Defence Force, Camp Ayanganna Auditorium. Dover said the test was very important for the Technical staff as they wanted to determine the level of fitness of the local players before going into technical and tactical work.
Outdoor sessions will kick off today at the YMCA or National Park ground depending on the weather which has continue to be a major challenge.
Players attending yesterday’s session came from Linden, Berbice, East Demerara and Georgetown.
With the Trinidad and Tobago Pro League in full swing, the foreign based Jaguars are at a high level of fitness and will be drafted into the squad when they League takes a break sometimes towards month end.
According to Coach Dover, training will continue on a daily basis but players will not be encamped until closer to the DCC.
Guyana will be hosting group B from August 4 – 10. Suriname and another team to be confirmed will be the others competing in this group.
The DCC will kick off next Sunday in the Netherlands Antilles at the Ergilio Hato Stadium with the host country taking on Grenada and Dominica who will clash in the first game.
