The Saturday morning calm of Albouystown was seared as, at approximately 11:00 hours, a fire blazed through the upstairs of the house on Lot 25 James and Hill Streets, Albouystown.
The house, apparently owned and occupied by a man identified only as ‘Nazim’ and his family, was severely damaged by a fire believed to have been started by an electrical source.
Neighbours reported that eight persons dwelt in the building.
“I just hear a scream an’ I turn an’ see de fire pun de house,” explained one bystander. Another passer-by said, “I just look up and I see de fire.”
Despite the efforts of the Fire Service and public spirited citizens, the entire upstairs of the house was razed and nothing was salvaged.
The bottom flat of the two-storey house appeared to have suffered only minimal damage, largely because of the public-spirited citizens who began to fight the fire before the Fire Service arrived on the scene. Two fire engines arrived simultaneously, and were soon followed by a water truck.
Neighbours affirm that everyone in the area lent assistance in fighting the fire.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
