ROSE HALL TOWN, CORENTYNE – With five days to go the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce has stepped up plans for the fourth annual Berbice Expo and Trade Fair.
The four-day event is billed to start July 25, at the Albion Sports Complex.
The activity is coordinated by the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce.
President of the Chamber, Bhigroog Poonai, said that based on the number of spots sold so far, the exposition promises to be bigger than any of the previous years. “We have taken Berbice Expo and Trade Fair to a new level; we have the Brazilians participating and the Shivam Furniture Company out of India is with us for yet another year.”
According to him, the entire pavilion is already sold out and the Chamber is now making additional facilities to accommodate more booths.
The biggest challenge facing the group is the inclement weather. Fortunately the ground is so designed to allow for a fast drainage of excess water.
In terms of security, the Guyana Sugar Corporation, COPS and the Guyana Police Force would work together to ensure that the four-day event is incident free.
The body is to meet with the Transport and Harbours Department later this week to discuss the possibility of a third vessel and extra hours of service for those desirous of crossing the Berbice River for that weekend.
According to Mr. Poonai, after hosting three such events and the Festival of India Trade Fair, it is now smooth running for his team.
The main objective of the Berbice Expo and Trade Fair is to showcase business concerns.
“The Chamber being a business entity, we are trying in all ways to promote businesses and in so doing create opportunities not only for the manufacturers but the small man as well.
“It also serves to strengthen ties between our local businesses and those outside of the Region and in many cases open new avenues. Over the years we are cognizant that the Expo has boosted our tourism drive tremendously.”
Mr. Poonai emphasized that the efforts put into the success of the Expo is not for personal gain but for that of the entire community.
He called on people to come out in their numbers and support the biggest activity in Region Six.
This year the theme is ‘Pioneering the Agri Revolution’.
