The Georgetown Public Hospital recently benefited from a donation to the tune of some $3M from the Bristol family, which is currently hosting the annual family reunion for the first time ever in Guyana.
The family members have done a lot of charity work for underprivileged children. According to Debra Bristol, as a result of the needs which were seen in the communities which the family visited, there are plans to host the family reunion in Guyana every two years.
As part of that activity, the family donated a quantity of medical supplies to Chief Executive Officer of the Georgetown Public Hospital, Michael Khan. The presentation was made on Friday last.
Apart from the donation, the Bristol family also conducted several medical outreach programmes in Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara. Another medical outreach programme was also held at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
According to Michelle Bristol-Esteban, who is an assistant administrator for a medical centre in New York, during the outreach programme in Nabaclis, some of the most prevalent cases which were seen included high blood pressure, diabetes and skin rashes. There was also a breast cancer awareness session and a diabetes foot care session.
Other activities which were part of the reunion included a church service last Sunday, a family fun day, and a day of fun for underprivileged children at the Splashmin’s Fun Park.
