– suspected to be missing bird catcher
Police in Berbice have recovered a decomposed body believed to be that of bird catcher Marcellus Francis.
The body was discovered yesterday afternoon by residents at a location called Little Kendall, in the Canje Creek.
Francis, who originally hails from Mabaruma in the Northwest District, was reported missing nine days ago after he went on one of his bird catching expeditions.
Following his disappearance, residents and police launched a search and it was only until yesterday that they stumbled upon a body that they suspect to be that of Francis.
A source in the area said that police have so far been unable to identify any marks of violence because of the decomposed state of the body.
However, they have not ruled out foul play and are awaiting the results of a post mortem examination to determine how he met his demise.
