Shagola Bentick scored 19 points yesterday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall to lead Plaisance Community High School to a 44–34 points win over St. John’s College that plunged them to their second consecutive defeat.
St. Johns lost 40–41 on Tuesday to President’s College in the first round of the 2008 Pepsi National Schools’ Basketball Festival. Yesterday, Bentick got help from Leon Daniels, who ended with 14 points to dispose the team again. Keith Blackman and Keiron Boyce reproduced their performance on Tuesday scoring 11 points each yesterday for St. Johns.
In game two, Bishops High School defeated Tutorial High School 47–41 also in the second round. Shawn Lashley scored 21 points for Bishops High with support from Yannick Dundas’ 14 points while Michael Thompson had 21 points for Tutorial High with Tyrone Hamid putting in 17 points in support.
The tournament continues tomorrow at the same venue with three quarter-final games; President’s College will play Plaisance in game one while Bishops takes on Wismar Multilateral in game two.
Defending champions Kwakwani challenge Mackenzie High School in game three. Last year’s semi–finalist, Linden’s Technical Institute have already booked a place in the Final Four round of the tournament, which is set for Friday.
