Incessant rainfall has reduced the Linden/Kwakwani road to a trail that is virtually impassable, in some areas.
This situation, apart from making a journey that was already too long and tedious, even more so, has resulted in bus operators increasing the fare by $500.
And according to peeved commuters, the fare hike was implemented even before any increase in transportation fares was announced by Government.
The present hike now means that commuters are forced to pay $2,000, instead of the $1,500 they had been paying.
The ever escalating fare, coupled with a road that is getting progressively worse, with each passing day, is proving to be a nightmare for commuters to and from the remote communities of Ituni, Kwakwani and Aroaima.
Quite recently it was reported that a trip to Kwakwani took almost eight hours because the bus had to navigate quagmire like conditions, and make numerous detours from the main thoroughfare, to avoid getting stuck in the slush.
Residents of these three communities are calling on the relevant authorities to address their plight urgently.
