– found frothing under mother’s house
A 28-year-old Enmore man finally gave up running from the law, and attempted to take his own life yesterday rather than face trial for the murder of his reputed wife.
Suresh Ramsingh, called Yam Head, or Termal, was admitted at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was found frothing from the mouth while lying in a hammock under his mother’s house at Enmore, East Coast Demerara, shortly after midday.
Ramsingh had been eluding Police for more than two months after allegedly slitting the throat of 22-year-old Shaneeza Khan on April 19 at the Grass Field, Enmore home they shared.
Kaieteur News understands that after several close shaves with the Police, including an early morning raid yesterday, Ramsingh apparently cracked under the constant pressure exerted by the security officers.
Up to late yesterday he was still clinging to life, and medical officials have listed his condition as critical.
Bibi Nazmoon Hamid, the dead woman’s mother, told this newspaper that the suspect was seen passing her house in the adjoining village of Foulis as recently as Tuesday night.
She said that her husband and son tried to apprehend him, but had to retreat when the suspect and four other persons who were in his company brandished cutlasses.
They contacted the Police that very night, but Ramsingh managed to remain on the loose.
Following the death of her daughter, Hamid had kept up a constant effort to have him apprehended, leading to the Police issuing a bulletin for his arrest.
There were reports that, after killing his reputed wife, Ramsingh had fled to the village of Mahaica.
But, recently, it is believed that he was hiding out in Grass Field, a few doors from where Khan was slain.
“I feel so happy that he is now in custody… but I want him to live to face his trial. I think that God has answered my prayers. Up to this morning I was looking at the DVD of my daughter’s funeral and was praying that her killer be brought to justice. God answered my prayer,” Bibi Nazmoon Hamid told this newspaper.
