Contrary to the Athletics Association of Guyana’s (AAG) disclosure that injury forced World Junior Championships prospect: Analisa Austin, out of the competition, Kaieteur Sport has ascertained the authentic status of the athlete.
“Austin is not injured”, a source close to the athlete told this newspaper yesterday. The source, who for private reasons requested anonymity, said that the AAG contacted the athlete late to have them represented at the prestigious meet.
“She could not get her preparations done in time”, the source said.
Austin had made the qualifying standard in the 100m for the meet, which begins tomorrow in Poland.
The AAG’s Chairman of Development, Colonel Rose had told another newspaper that Austin pulled out of the meet owing to injury hence the body’s request to have her replaced by the low ranking Oslyn Collins.
Rose gave that as the AAG’s justification for selecting Collins ahead of Alika Morgan and other good prospects.
He said Collins’ name was submitted to the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF).
It is possible that Austin’s name could have been submitted after Collins’. Efforts to contact Rose for clarification on this issue yesterday proved futile. Rose’s statement about Austin’s status was inaccurate.
A few weeks ago, President of the AAG, Claude Blackmore had denied the selection of Coach Joe Ryan as Guyana’s national coach to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China even though he was aware of the decision.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
