Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) Handgun Captain Dale Hing emerged as the Overall winner when the Association held its .22 Pistol competition at the 28th Tactical Services Range on the weekend.
Hing who tallied a total of 476 points and 9bulls edged out Aundrea Cambridge who had a similar amount of points but only managed 4 bulls.
Oudit Seenarine was 3rd (457pts &3bulls) followed by Murtland Smith (450pts & 2bulls) and Gordon Richards (444pts & 6bulls).
The course consisted of shooting 2 strings of 10 rounds each at two precision targets at both the 10 and 15metre distances then a final string of 10 rounds at the 20metre distance.
The total points for all three stages were tabulated for the overall placements.
Seventeen (17) shooters took part in the competition which was very competitive since the majority of scores at the 10m stage was on par.
Up to this stage, Cambridge was in lead with 199pts/3 bulls followed by Hing (194pts/5bulls) and Gordon Richards (193pts/2 bulls).
The 15m metre stage saw Cambridge dropping points thereby giving the other shooters some hope for victory.
But it was the veteran marksman Hing who showed his fellow competitors that he is still in top shape despite not practicing as regular as he would like to.
Hing claimed the first position at the 15m stage with 191pts/4bulls followed by Peter Persaud (189pts) and Murtland Smith (187pts/1bull).
In final stage which was shot at the 20m distance, junior marksman David Dharry showed both seniors and juniors that he has what it takes to be on top claiming the 1st position with 93pts. Second was another junior marksman, Oudit Seenarine with 92pts with Hing taking 3rd (91pts).
At the presentation, Cambridge received the Sharpshooter badge for being the first person to complete the marksman qualification programme at the 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25m distances with both .22 & 99 pistols.
The GNRA expressed gratitude Safeway Security for sponsoring the competition.
