A 36-year-old Corentyne pedestrian became the country’s latest road fatality when he allegedly walked into the path of a speeding car on Sunday.
Amorjet Persaud, of Yakusari, South Black Bush Polder, was pronounced dead while being treated at the New Amsterdam Hospital minutes after he was struck down on the Number 45 Village, Corentyne Public Road.
Police investigations revealed that, at about 18:30 hours on Sunday, Persaud attempted to cross the road from behind a parked truck and ended up into the path of an oncoming car, which was being driven by Gerald Depoo of Port Mourant.
An unconscious Persaud was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where he died.
The driver of the motor car is in Police custody assisting with the investigations.
