– despite complaints lodged almost a year ago
Residents of the Albouystown area are upset over failure of the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) to rectify the sewerage problem that they have been facing for close to a year.
According to a resident of the area, some time ago, one staffer from GWI came and inspected the problem and said that he would see what could be done. He reportedly never returned.
Since then, residents say, numerous reports have been made but no action has been taken by the utility company.
The residents relate that GWI would furnish the residents, who call in to make complaints about the issue, with a reference number, but no follow-up was ever done.
According to residents, the effluent is ending up in the alley, and when the alley floods (due to heavy rainfall) it ends up in the yards of residents of the area. The lingering stench, they say, has them peeved.
Also, some of the residents have young children, and they worry about their health and well being.
Efforts by this newspaper, over the last three days, to solicit a comment from someone in the complaints section of GWI have proved futile.
