Guyana’s capacity to maintain its road networks has been boosted significantly with the acquisition of 47 pieces of key equipment by contractor B.K. International Inc.
Recently, the company acquired an asphalt plant. With the addition of these pieces of equipment, which arrived at the E.C. Vieira wharf in Houston, East Bank Demerara, the company has spent an additional US$1.3 million.
According to Managing Director Brian Tiwari last evening at the wharf, the equipment was bought at an auction in Texas, and arrived on the ‘Gloria T’ yesterday, one of the vessels owned by B.K. International.
The businessman explained that he managed to save millions through the auction, since the market value is estimated at US$10 million.
B.K. International Inc. had, in partnership with K. Nauth Consortium, signed a US$15M contract for the second phase of the rehabilitation of 40 kilometres of Berbice roadway.
It includes the three and a half miles of crucial access road leading to the Moleson Creek port.
Phases One and Two consist of 87 miles of main roadway from New Amsterdam to Moleson Creek – at a cost of US$34M.
Phase One is due for completion next month, while Phase Two is expected to be completed within 20 months.
