DEAR EDITOR,
Mr. T. King appears to be the latest protagonist for the PPP/C Government programs and philosophy in his response to Freddie Kissoon’s excellent analysis of this administration’s behaviour.
In yesterday’s Kaieteur Newspaper he dares to suggest that we are living in a democracy.
I am sure Freddie Kissoon has the capacity and penmanship to expose the flaws in T. Kings’ contention.
What is happening today makes his and other allegations of twenty-eight (28) years of rigged elections and dictatorship look like child’s play.
Free and fair elections have never guaranteed the absence of a dictatorship, and perhaps, King can tell us whether the government’s irascibility to reasonable observations by people like Yesu Persaud is not an index of a creeping dictatorship.
The obvious need to control the judiciary, the Security Forces, the Municipalities and the Labour Movement are examples of a move to hegemony.
If these are not indications of dictatorship, what is the bully-ism and refusal to allow elected Local Government authorities such as in Georgetown?
What is the withdrawal of Government resources from the Critchlow Labour College because the board refuses to genuflect at the altar of the new ruling elite?
If this is Kings’ idea of a democracy, may God help us.
T. King should say whether the State control of funds and their capricious handing out of favours is not a form of dictatorship, such as selling valuable property belonging to the State without advertisement and due process.
Is this dictatorship in the making?
Is the control of radio from 1992 to date not a form of dictatorship?
T. King should address these specific issues and stop this myopia about what the government is doing and says would do.
