The 5th Annual Albert “Fudd” Murray Memorial football tournament which was scheduled to be played tomorrow at the Scott’s Church play ground from 10:00 hrs has been pushed back to July 5.
According to the coordinator, Neil Humphrey, this is due to the fact that Guyana will be taking on Suriname in the return leg of the crucial FIFA World Cup Qualifying match on the same date.
Humphrey said that a number of the players and officials that will be taking part in the competition have express their willingness to be apart of the crowd at the stadium on the day to help cheer Guyana onto victory. He said they contacted the family who willingly agreed, also expressing their support for Guyana.
Four teams are scheduled to participate in the competition namely New Amsterdam United (NAU) U-20, Cougars and Arsenals over-30 and Hearts of Oak Masters. New Amsterdam United are the defending champions.
Fudd Murray was a former Berbice player who represented the county with distinction in the 60s, 70s and 80s. He also played for a number of clubs in his hay day in the Ancient County and in his latter days was also a member of the Hearts of Oak Masters’ football club.
