Saeed Ali dominated the intermediate category at the Oasis Café monthly Chess tournament held last Saturday at the Oasis Too on South Road.
Ali played unbeaten until the sixth and final round where he loss to Khalid Gajraj. Stanley Ming Jr., after taking a few months break from the game, returned to capture second place, while third was shared between Khalid Gajraj and Sham Khan.
Final points standing, Saeed Ali and Stanley Ming Jr. 5 points (Ali defeated Ming in their encounter to finish ahead), Khalid Gajraj, Sham Khan and Irshad Ishmael 4, Lee Fung-A-Fat 3 ½ , Khalif Gobin 3, Sheriffa Ali 2 ½ , Devendra Singh and Kana Khan 2 and Antonio Seenanan and Jared Ramnarayan on 1 point each.
In the beginners category, new comer Mikael Phang of Marian Academy won first price, with Khalid Gobin second and Athena Seenanan third.
The final points standing in that category, Mikael Phang 5, Khalid Gobin 5 (Phang defeated Gobin in their encounter to finish ahead), Athena Seenanan 4 ½, Daniel Simboo and Darius Ali 3 ½, Michael Phang, Nicholas Khan and Joannah Ramsammy 2 ½, Ashmita Tulsi, Alicia Sims and Jon Beri Low 2 and Crystal Dey on 1 point.
The tournament was sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Walker of the Oasis Café and organised by the Oasis Chess Club.
