– assisting with medical bills
Officials from the US Embassy, on Thursday, visited 22-year-old Shonette Williams, the Guyanese housewife who was critically injured on Tuesday night after she was struck down by a diplomatic vehicle.
The victim’s husband, Inshan Williams, told Kaieteur News that the officials who were at the Intensive Care Unit to see his wife expressed their sympathy to the family.
According to Mr. Williams, the Embassy is assisting with his wife’s medical bills.
He said that a nurse assigned to the Embassy is also assisting staff in the ICU.
Meanwhile, Shonette Williams, who has a three-year-old daughter, remains in an unconscious state and is on life support.
But her husband said he had a glimmer of hope on Thursday when his wife opened her eyes, briefly.
Mr. Williams said medical staff explained that his wife is hearing but cannot respond.
Shonette Williams, of Lot 56 Madewini, was standing near the Madewini bridge at around 21:00 hrs on Tuesday when she was allegedly struck from behind by a diplomat’s driver.
According to Mr. Williams, the driver alleged that he had lost control of his vehicle after hitting a dog.
He said residents assisted in placing his wife in the vehicle which had struck her and the driver transported her to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
