The Berbice Football Association U-15 League competition continued on Saturday at the Scotts Church ground with only one of the four scheduled games played.
Embarrassingly four of the teams slated to participate failed to show up thus giving their opponents walk overs. Ironically two of the teams Rosignol United and Monedderlust are headed by the President and Secretary of the BFA.
However despite their absence the lone game that was played between pre tournament favourites New Amsterdam United Football Club (NAU) and arch rivals Paradise Invaders made up for the their absence and lived up to expectations with a total of eight goals being scored in the 60 minute match.
NAU were first on the score sheets with Devon James scoring in the 10 minute to give his team a 1-0 lead. After that both teams settled down with some even mid field exchanges. Paradise then hit back to level things up in the 22nd minute off the boot of Leroy James as the teams went to half time locked 1-1.
At the resumption, the Paradise strikers went on the rampage as the tucked in three unanswered goals with Nigel Joseph in the 34th and Hakeem Hudson with a double in the 40th and 50th minutes took them to a 4-1 lead with just 10 minutes remaining.
However the NAU lads were not about to give up and with a few adjustments were able to conduct a series of raids on their opponents¢ goal in a final burst as they were able to hit home three goals in a five minute period.
Leroy Joseph netted in the 53rd minute followed by Graham Thomas’ strike in the 56th minute and Dane Johnson 57th minute goal that evened things up.
Brazilia got a walk over from Real Union, while Hearts of Oak Juniors also gained a walk over from Corentyne Links. Rosignol United and Monedderlust failed to show up for their encounter. The tournament continues next Saturday with four more games at the same venue.
The competition is being coordinated and supervised by members of the Hearts of Oak Masters Football Club. Former national players Neil Grizzly Humphrey and Sam Jones along with Nigel Felix and Kenrick Bowery are the men in charge. (Samuel Whyte)
