Another donation was made to the Al-Madinah Islamic Academy, in Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast, on Thursday, and the recipients were eight male orphans who each received a number of text books.
The donation was made through the Islamic Foundation of Toronto, Canada.
In presenting the text books to the boys, Shaik Moeen-ul Hack, of the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana, said that the Islamic Foundation of Toronto, Canada has donated Can.$30,000 to purchase the text books to assist orphans in Essequibo, Meter-Meer-Zorg, New Amsterdam, Berbice and the Al Ghazasli Islamic Academy in Georgetown.
He noted, too, that some of the monies will go towards transportation cost to help those vulnerable students to and from school.
Mr. Hack encouraged the boys to take good care of the books which he said will help in their academic pursuit.
Canada-based Guyanese, Kaioom Khan, who represented the Islamic Foundation of Toronto, along with his daughter who accompanied him, said the he was overjoyed and happy to be a part of the presentation.
He told the boys that it is important to acquire knowledge, emphasizing strongly that knowledge is power which will help them to differentiate between right and wrong.
Principal Salahudin Jamaludeen of the Al Madinah Islamic Academy received the books on the students’ behalf.
