The Institute of Private Enterprise Development (IPED) was yesterday struck a severe financial blow when bandits attacked and robbed a vehicle transporting some $3M from its South Road location to a city bank.
Reports reaching this newspaper indicate that shortly before 16:00 hours, Credit Supervisor/Driver Vishnu Harripaul and two office assistants attached to IPED left their South Road office in a vehicle to deposit cash.
The police reported that four men, three of whom were armed with handguns, attacked while the Rav 4, PJJ 394, in which the IPED employees were traveling was on Oronoque Street in the vicinity of Charlotte Street.
A motor car reportedly blocked the path of the transporting vehicle and the three armed men came up and held the victims at gunpoint and ordered them out of the vehicle.
They then drove away with the Rav 4 in which there were a number of cheques to the value of $2.7M and $596,000 in cash. The fourth bandit who was driving the motor car also escaped.
Up to press time the bandits and vehicle were still at large.
