The Parrot firmly believes that R.H.O Corbin is confused, since there is no other word or reason to describe his position on CARIFESTA X. This is an event to make us proud; an event that was the brainchild of the Palm Tree party founder leader and former President, L.F.S. Burnham; a man under whom RHO served and whose seat he now occupies.
Given this, one would have expected RHO to feel that same sense of pride LFS felt when he engineered the festival. I say the same sense of pride simply because this is the first time the event will be staged in its “place of birth” since Forbes first opened it thirty-six years ago right here.
Just before the official launching a few weeks ago, RHO commented (an understatement) to the effect during one of his protest marches, that if his demands are not met, he will make the festival unmanageable. We all saw what happened during the launching. That has to be the most unpatriotic statement ever made by a local politician. LFS surely would have turned in his grave, and probably still is turning as a result of that statement.
RHO has accused the government of not acknowledging the contributions made by his party when it was in office and now, in opposition. CARIFESTA is something that LFS and his party was proud of and would always be recognized for “fathering” the festival. History would bear this out. He has also accused government of not providing opportunities for young people, both in terms of jobs and for them to be meaningfully occupied.
Here, major opportunities have been presented and RHO is threatening the hosting of the event unless his demands are met; demands that are unfair in the context of the genesis of the problems he’s protesting against. The President recently acknowledged the role of LFS in the genesis of CARIFESTA. The applause of the large crowd present resonated with patriotism.
Given the circumstances, RHO should be the one, after the President’s decision to bring the festival back home, to lead the cause to ensure that all is in place to host the event and should be seen doing so if not in support of the government, but out of respect for his founder leader, LFS. In other words, he should not be seen as the “party pooper” but as the “party pusher”.
Many, especially young people, are eagerly looking forward to the festival. Some are members and supporters of the PNCR. Why would RHO want to deny them this opportunity to not only experience this mega event, but also to participate?
The Parrot has been reliably informed that many in the party are not happy with RHO’s attitude to CARIFESTA X; they support the event. Maybe they should be more vocal in their dissension with him.
Apparently, given this vast support from within the PNCR for the event, Corbin Anti-Nationalism To Forfeit Efforts Staging The Arts (CANTFESTA) will not succeed and will see Celebration And Rally In Frolic Ecstasy Staging The Arts (CARIFESTA).
From all indications, RHO would be the odd man out regarding the festival. I wanted to say the odd couple, but couldn’t find anyone else as unpatriotic as him on this issue. Squawk! Squawk!
