A superb and outstanding all round performance from Tutorial Academy’s all rounder Flynn Reid led the outstanding list of performers in the latest set of matches when the Berbice leg of the Republic Bank Right Start national school’s U-15 40-over cricket competition continued in the Ancient county with matches in the New Amsterdam zone of the New Amsterdam/Canje and West Berbice/Mahaicony districts.
Two matches were played in New Amsterdam zone while one was contested in the West Berbice district.
In the matches played; a masterful and outstanding all round display by Reid with a tournament best performance of 112 not out, where he also achieved the rear feat of batting through the innings, to record the first and only century in the competition so far, coupled with bowling figures of 4-11 from 3 overs piloted his team.
Support came in the form of a devastating spell of fast bowling from pacer Shaun Hosannah with figures of 6-14 from 5 overs was the channel for Tutorial Academy Secondary School (TASS) crushing 173-run victory over a hapless School of the Nations of New Amsterdam.
In the game that was played at the Edinburgh Ground on the East Bank of Berbice (because the entire town of New Amsterdam does not have a cricket ground). TASS batted first and raced to 207 all out in 32.4 overs with opener Reid, who plays cricket for the Tucber Park Cricket Club, was a class above the rest as he lead the assault plundering five sixes and five fours in a immaculate display.
He and fellow opener Jamal Henry 23 had earlier put on 67 in just 8 overs for the first wicket. Stamon Adams contributed 18.
Bowling for School of the Nations, medium pacer Kevon Velloza took 4 wickets while there were 2 apiece for medium pacers Konata Simpson and Jamal Hackshaw. They in their turn at the crease had no answer to the pace of Hosannah and the off spin of Reid and were wiped away for a paltry 34 in a mere 9 overs.
In another game which was also played at the Edinburgh ground; Vrymans Erven Secondary School (VESS) trashed Guyana Community Developers (GCD) by 156 runs. Their demoralizing victory was lead by pacers Kwesi Kendall with astonishing figures of 5-5 from 2 overs and Carl Barran with equally shocking figures 4-5 from 2 overs.
VESS had taken fist taste of the pitch and blazed 169 all out in 19 overs with Arlington Millington 22 and Oscar Joseph 21.
Bowling for GCD there were 2 wickets each for medium pacers Brian Nurse and Shannon Crawford.
In their turn at the crease the developers had no chance to even think much less develop as they were routed for a tournament low 13 in 4 overs as the rampaging VESS opening duo went to work.
In another game that was played at Bush Lot on the West Coast of Berbice; Mahaicony Secondary got the better of Bush Lot Secondary by 44 runs.
Mahaicony took first strike and could only reach 122 in 25 overs with Wazim Mustapha leading the way with 45. Their low total was due to a mesmerizing spell of off spin bowling by Curt Griffith 6-17 from 6 overs and he had support from medium pacer John Moonsammy with 2 wickets.
In their turn at the wicket, Bush Lot could do no better and crumbled for a disappointing 78 in 22 overs.
Their predicament was engineered by accurate spell of medium fast bowling from Deswyn Butts with 4-3 from 4 overs and Glenroy Archibald who supported admirably with 3-12 from 5 overs. The competition is continuing.
