More than two months after a Laing Avenue shooting death, a 27-year-old man was yesterday charged with the March 30 murder of George Barton.
Aman Lalchan, of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, was yesterday taken to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where the indictable charge was read by Principal Magistrate, Melissa Robertson-Ogle.
Lalchan, a father of two, was remanded and will make another court appearance on June 6.
George Barton, 48, of 34 Howes Street, Charlestown, was shot dead, a single bullet to the left side neck, reportedly by gunmen in a white car at Laing Avenue. His 18-year-old daughter who was with him at the time was wounded in the right leg.
Police said that Barton was arrested on several occasions for armed robbery and murder.
He was recently held by the police following the shooting to death of an Albouystown resident.
According to a police source, Barton was charged for the murder of a La Penitence resident, Troy Gomes, who was shot dead near the Ruimveldt Police Station in 2005.
Kaieteur News understands that some nine months ago he had escaped an execution attempt when some men in a car shot at him while he was on Sussex Street.
