The Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club will stage its first meeting for the year on Sunday when a One-Day sprint event is held at the club’s track in Alness, Corentyne.
Dubbed the Independence Meet, Sunday’s event will see several of Guyana’s top horses vying for lucrative prizes in eight races, four of which are feature events.
The B and lower race over a distance of 1200 metres (six furlongs) has attracted a first prize of $200,000.
Expected to create explosive excitement is the Three-Year-Old Open for horses born and bread in Guyana and the West Indies. At stake is $160,000 for the winner of the 1400 metre event.
Animals contesting the E and Lower one mile race will battle for the $150,000 first prize. Sunday’s meeting is being sponsored by GT&T, Banks DIH Limited, Del Mur Company and Jumbo Jet Auto Sales.
The Ryan Crawford Club is formerly the Alness Turf Club and is managed by horse owner Colin Elcock.
