Tilawattie Singh, aka Angela, of Ankerville, Port Mourant, was arrested with her son for allegedly harbouring prison escapee Stafrie Alexander.
The allegation that she was beaten and dragged by ranks of the Guyana Police Force’B’ Division, has the Commander of the Division Paul Williams asking her to prove her case.
The Commander divulged that since taking over from Assistant Commissioner Ian Amsterdam, he was not made aware of such an allegation. He said that no report was made by the woman.
He said that if she was indeed beaten and harassed by the ranks as she is alleging, she would have to prove her case to the various departments such as the Office of Professional Responsibility and the Police Complaints Authority.
“We will do our internal investigation if there is anything to that effect to support her allegations,” he surmised.
He said that it is her constitutional right to take action privately. “Once a complaint is made as it relates to the conduct or performance of ranks during the execution of their duties, and even off duty, OPR and Police Complaints Authority can proceed to do an investigation.”
He is imploring all ranks to exude professionalism while carrying out their duties.
Tilawattie Singh who was recently released after being in custody for three days, made damning allegations that she was physically assaulted by ranks of ‘B’ Division and a Detective attached to the Major Crimes Unit.
She stated that after being arrested at her home in Ankerville, Port Mourant she was taken aback of Babu Jaan by the ranks and beaten mercilessly.
They offered no explanation. She is threatening to take legal action against the ranks if justice is not served.
The woman was allegedly arrested after police received information that she was aiding and assisting Camp Street Prison escapee, Stafrie Alexander.
She was accused of providing food for the fugitive while her son allegedly hid the criminal. They were both released after intense interrogation.
