As efforts continue to address the many problems plaguing the local prison system, bids were opened yesterday at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) for the provision of consultancy service to support the restructuring of the prison enterprise. The procuring entity was the Ministry of Public Security. Accompanying each bid were financial proposals, the value of which were not disclosed.
Bids were also opened for the construction of an office for the Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA) consultants at the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) Head Office. The ASYCUDA system is a new computerised system that is expected to address the majority of existing issues at GRA and introduce new features towards improved tax operations.
During the exercise yesterday, bids were opened for a Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) project. The tender was described as the Water Supply and Sanitation Infrastructure Improvement Programme: Rehabilitation and Expansion of Water Treatment Facility at Shelterbelt, Georgetown. According to information from the IDB website, the construction period for this project is 15 months with 12 months defects liability period. There was only one bid that was opened for this project.
Bids were also opened for a project being undertaken by the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA). It is for the supply and installation of stand-alone solar photovoltaic systems and supply and installation of LED lighting and associated electrical circuit. The project is being done in two lots.
Three bids were opened for the refurbishing and relocation of master control room for the National Communications Network (NCN).
Further, bids were opened for electrical wiring of the Lethem Power Station. The procuring entity is the Ministry of Public Infrastructure. This project is part of the Hinterland Electrification Company (HECI).
Bids for two projects under the Guyana Elections Commission were also opened yesterday. They entail the supply and installation of solar panels and construction of a registration office at Mabaruma, Region one.

Security services are being procured in Regions two and four by the respective Regional Democratic Councils as a number of bids were opened yesterday for several contractors.

Bids were opened for minor repairs to a shed for the Ministry of Legal Affairs.
Additionally, bids for three projects for the Ministry of Business were opened. They were for the procurement for renovations to the office building of the National Exhibition Centre, the rainwater drainage system at the main exhibition hall and procurement for rehabilitation of parking lots’ surfaces.
