Enforcement officers attached to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) were yesterday caught in a mix-up after rumours spread across the country that the Camp Street escapees turned up at the Skeldon Public Hospital seeking medical treatment for an injury.
A police source confirmed with this publication that the rumours circulating are completely false. The source explained that the enforcement officers were at the time executing a “stake out” operation and a round was “accidentally” discharged, injuring one of the officers in the process. He sustained a minor injury to the wrist. He was treated and further transferred to the Port Mourant Hospital. He is said to be doing well.
According to the reports circulating, three men showed up at the Skeldon Public Hospital with “mud” on their clothing. One of the men was reportedly injured and was seeking medical attention. It was also stated that the men refused to reveal their identity, leaving medical staff suspicious and afraid. The medical staff reportedly assumed they were prison escapees. It was later confirmed that men were GRA officers after they were identified by police officers attached to Springlands Police Station. The incident of the discharged round was reported.
