A 20-year-old gold miner who is accused of robbing a man he knows, at gunpoint, was yesterday remanded to prison after pleading not guilty to a robbery under-arms charge. He appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Aubrey Hodge, of Lot 141 Howes Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, denied the charge which alleged that on June 14, last, at Cooper Street, Albouystown, Georgetown while armed with a gun, he robbed Patrick Douglas of a 22 penny weight gold chain valued at $140,000; a 23 pennyweight gold chain valued at $150,000 and a gold ring valued at $50,000.
Hodge who unrepresented by counsel was instructed to make another court appearance on August 11, to collect statements.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore said that the parties are known to each other and that Hodge was positively identified by the victim.
In objecting to bail for Hodge, the prosecutor pointed out that Hodge had been on the run since committing the offence and there is a likelihood he might not return to court.
Prosecutor Moore also pointed out that at the time of his arrest, Hodge told police he resides at Lot 6 Ketley Street, Charlestown, Georgetown.
