Dear Editor,
I am a 35 year old woman, presently employed as a Public Servant attached to one of the Ministries in the Co-operative Republic of Guyana for the past nine (9) years. I have a great record for finishing targets on time and maximum attendance.
For the past nine (9) years I have been hired as a contracted staff member, however recently I was placed as a Permanent Staff with a stipulation attached.
I have been in good health for the past ten (10) years and have been taking good care of myself and was NEVER hospitalized. However recently I was told by my manager that part of the stipulation is that I need to have a medical done.
I am gravely concerned since I am a single parent with two (2) children aged 11 & 13 to provide for. My concern is that I will fail the medical and be terminated from my job and face great stigma and discrimination. I am pleading with you to please look into the matter urgently.
Worried Public Servant
