It is customary in society to assess the anniversary of the party in office, whether the first hundred days, the first year, etc. Last week the APNU+AFC coalition completed two years in office. The achievements and failures were analyzed. But what about the existence of the PPP for those two years that it has been in power?
The first graphic detail of this party is that it has become resurgent. It behaves as if its twenty- three years of consecutive authority have been the highlight of phenomenal, incomparable accomplishments in the history of government in Guyana. The resurgence can be seen in the frequent letters that Clement Rohee, Gail Teixeira, Donald Ramotar, Sam Hinds and Hydar Ally write in all the newspaper. I single out those five names because they have held important state posts from 1992 until the election defeat in 2015.
The outpourings in the newspapers also come from Bharrat Jagdeo who though he didn’t have power from 1992 became president for twelve years. Of all the names listed, he was the most hegemonic PPP person in Guyana. Frequent criticisms of the APNU+AFC administration come from Leslie Ramsammy and Juan Edghill. Although Anil Nandlall writes more profusely than all other PPP figures, he has been a Minister for just three years.
It is either a psychological process at work or it is a very depraved biology we have in Guyana that in the oceans of opposition activism and the mountains of letters we are seeing in those two years of the PPP as an opposition party, no one has even penned a concise footnote that goes like this; “We admit to some violations that were unfortunate, we apologize.”
I was in the Labour Day March and as it reached Queenstown, Sam Hinds and Juan Edghill were standing at a corner and were saying hello to the marchers. They both said hello to me.
This same Edghill filed contempt of court charges against me. The way attorney Ashton Chase structured the writ once found guilty, there was no alternative of a fine or reprimand but a jail sentence. I say once more as I have written umpteen times – I am forever grateful to Khemraj Ramjattan and Nigel Hughes for successfully contesting Edghill’s writ.
These little dictators are here, there and everywhere. They sermonize the Guyanese people with their nonsense, hypocrisy, barefacedness and morbid fictions. And what is the object? To rule again.
The PPP can get Ashton Chase to file another writ based on what I will now put down on paper- If the PPP comes back to power either electorally or illegally, I will engage in unorthodox politics against them even if it costs me my life. The PPP should be allowed to rule Guyana again only in one exceptional circumstance – its current leadership must be ostracized and brand new faces without nasty crimes against their names take over the party leadership.
I honestly believe that even if the APNU+AFC coalition returns to power in 2020 what took place under the PPP will not be allowed or will not be practised. The Jagdeo hegemony has been the most immoral, depraved, and uncivilized period in the history of government in power.
We have not even seen the tip of the iceberg of violations these people have committed.
One former PPP Minister who came from humble beginnings and whose only income was from state employment has agreed to pay market value for his Pradoville 2 house lot. Just read between the lines.
The fifteen-year period of Jagdeo/Ramotar control is the darkest cloud that has ever descended on this country. The words that will follow this line come from the deep recesses of my mind, heart and soul – if in 2015 the PPP had won, Mr. Glenn Lall’s life would have been in danger. I would have had my life endangered. The independent press would have been destroyed. The public service would have been ethnically cleansed. The criminal conspiracy would have exercised unhindered power. The police force would have become completely tainted at the top.
I say completely because the few good men left at the top and who resisted drug money would have been kicked out. The little that is left of the country’s resources would have gone to friends of Mr. Jagdeo. I welcome the charges against those that attacked me in 2010. But there was the other attack in 2012. I am heartened by the new investigations into Crum Ewing’s murder. These are just two examples of the monster that devoured Guyana from 1999 to 2015.
