A total of 1,248 grammes of cannabis was discovered Saturday at separate locations during police routine searches.
Eight hundred and ninety four grammes were discovered abandoned at the Number 78 foreshore by police conducting random searches for illegal items. The ranks who searched passengers at the Suriname (backtrack) initially found nothing, but after the passengers had departed found three boxes in close proximity to the back track crossing. The boxes were searched and the cannabis was found. It was then inspected and weighed and amounted to eight hundred and ninety four grams. No arrests were made.
Meanwhile, a passenger travelling to Georgetown from New Amsterdam in a hire car was arrested about 16:00hrs Saturday at Profit Public Road, West Coast Berbice, with a bag containing 354 grammes of cannabis.
