Competitions Director of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), Rev. Ian Alves has informed that the Stag Elite League double header which was originally fixed for the Mackenzie Sports Club ground today has now been switched
to the Tucville ground in the City.
This is as a result of a recent activity at the venue which has rendered it unplayable. Down to meet are the unbeaten Guyana Defense Force and West Berbice’ Monedderlust in the curtain raiser with the main event bringing together Linden’s Topp XX and East Demerara’s Victoria Kings.
GDF, the only unbeaten team in the 2016/2017 League will be going after win number 8 and in the process will hope to hand Monedderlust their 7th loss in eight matches. Averaging just over three goals per match this season, the Army will be unleashing their leading joint top scorer, Sherwyn Caesar who has 6 goals along with Fruta Conquerors’ Eon Alleyne on the Berbice side tonight.
Caesar will find able support from Delroy Fraser who has five goals to his name, Olvis Mitchell (4), Jeffrey Pereira (3), Eusi Phillips and Delwin Fraser with a pair each. This combo of players have been in no nonsense mood under the guidance of Head Coach, Bilall Nantambu.
Monedderlust will hope that Kenston Lindely and Akeema Watts who have scored a brace of goals each along with Kevin Cottoy and Dexter Frank with one apiece can replicate this form in guiding their team to an upset win tonight at Tucville.
The main clash pits the new kinds on the Elite League circuit, Topp XX and Victoria Kings in what is anticipated to be a fierce battle between the fourth and fifth placed teams. Terrance Aaron who has blasted the nets on three occasions and elder statesman Travis Waterton who has two goals will be the pillars on which Topp XX will hope to pull off their second win of the league.
This would however be a tough task as the Kings have already tucked away two wins in their eight matches, four losses and two draws. Seon Robinson would be leading their quest for win #3 backed up by the likes of Marlis Johnson, Calvin DeSouza, Kemroy Alfred and Alden Lawrence.
Kick off time is 18:30hrs and fans can look forward to the usual giveaways from sponsors, Ansa McAl, Church’s Chicken and Automobile Power Products / Jailing.
Meanwhile, another double header is set for Sunday at the same venue. GDF will again be in action this time against Topp XX which will make the trek back to the City for the first match at 18:30hrs. The main attraction will be between Fruta Conquerors and Buxton United.
