Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred on the Colombia Public Road, Essequibo Coast about 14:00hrs yesterday.
The accident resulted in the death of 21-year-old Hazrul Bacchus Jr. of 25 Colombia, Essequibo Coast. He was said to have worked in a family business
According to reports received by this publication, Bacchus was heading south on the Colombia public road when he lost control of his motor cycle CF 5624 and collided with a 42-disk tractor chipper. Witnesses to the scene said that at the time of the incident, Hazrul was overtaking motor car PNN 7699, and in the process, his motorcycle handle clipped the rear, right side of the car causing him to lose control. Bacchus’ bike ran off the road and into the chipper where his leg was severed. He suffered lacerations to his arms and other parts of his body.
The dead man’s father, Hazrul Bacchus Sr., said that he had just concluded prayer in the Masjid when he heard of his son’s accident. “Just as meh done pray the car man come bring the message that meh son get in accident.”
The older Bacchus said that when he arrived on the scene he saw his son’s body lying almost lifeless on the ground with his leg severed. The man said he then got into his car and rushed his son to the Suddie Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Relatives of the deceased strongly believe that the chipper had a major part to play in the young man’s demise. The chipper was situated within close proximity of the narrow public road. “The chipper deh close to the road, and if the chipper nah bin deh, the man woulda save, ‘cause he woulda roll in the trench with the bike. Because the chipper went deh he get chop up and he get serious injuries,” one relative surmised.
Hazrul Bacchus Jr. leaves behind to mourn his family and newly-wedded wife along with his unborn child. His wife, Taysheena Bacchus, who is a school teacher of the Anna Regina Secondary School, is still in shock. Relatives say that she keeps asking for her husband to come back home.
