The Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) continues its massive outreach as it seeks
to spread the game to all parts of the County.
On Sunday last, President of the BVA Levi Nedd and members of the executive and other support staff travelled to the Renaissance No53 Village, Corentyne, where the latest outreach was held.
The effort was to resuscitate the volleyball club in the area. At the end of the day’s session a number of things were achieved. A new volleyball outdoor court was made. Volleyballs and a net were donated to the members and preliminary coaching was done.
At the end of the session Coordinator and Manager of the team Mrs. Waveney Dorset expressed thanks and profound gratitude to Mr. Nedd and the BVA for the initiative. She also mentioned that it is her fervent hope that the BVA continues to support the effort in encouraging youths to be gainfully occupied in sports.
A tree planting exercise was also done in commemoration of the activity.
Meanwhile, the BVA will be hosting two tournaments over the coming weekend. The first activity will be held on Saturday 29th April at the Felix Austin Police Training school at Adventure, Corentyne Berbice. This activity is being played as an orientation of the
Police back into the BVA activities.
The second activity will be held on Monday 1st May at Corriverton Sport Complex, Corentyne Berbice.
All the top teams in Berbice have already registered for the two competitions. Teams are expected from Orealla and Siparuta areas up the Corentyne River, Corentyne, New Amsterdam and West Berbice among others.
Trophies and other incentives will be presented to the top teams and outstanding individual players. (Samuel Whyte)
